Terrorists and their fans

If I recall correctly a man in Melbourne, Australia some years stated on TV that “Osama Bin Laden is a great man“.

The comments caused outrage with the Howard Regime moving to make praising “terrorists” illegal.

Now a person in America has publicly praised Andreas Breivik, the sometimes “mad man”, sometimes “mass murderer” but really not a “terrorst” .

Here is a fan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG0MKzkaYN0

This killer has fans and people openly support his actions and there is no outrage. At some point one these followers will pick up a gun and kill some people and the authorities will wonder “why didn’t we see this coming?”.

This is another double standard that puts the west at a disadvantage. Each time a law, policy or even outrage is not uniformly applied then the result is another notch that weakens the so called western civilisation.

This is because its the west that promises the rest of the world that the things that set it apart are its attitudes to freedom, equality, human rights and justice. This kind of support would be expected from a Taliban or a Al Qaeda operative right? Probably, but Talibs and Al Qaeda havent been educating the rest of the world for the last eighty years using TV, magazines and film on how tolerant they are and how a persons religion, sexual orietation and educational level is of no importance.

Breivik believes that today “he will be written off as a terrorist but in 100 years he will be regarded as a hero”.

Who needs to wait a hundred years when your issue is with Muslims?

He is right, he will be regarded a hero but not in Norway because it will be 100% Muslim with Minarets and Halal eateries everywhere.

The “Exceptional Character” of America’s Armed Forces – Jack A. Smith

Few American chief executives have lavished as much praise upon the U.S. military as President Barack Obama. Yet day after day reports appear in the mass media about war crimes, atrocities, and abuses attributed to that same armed forces and its leadership — mostly on foreign battlefields but also back home.

“Good morning, everybody,” the president intoned cheerily during a Jan. 5 visit to the Pentagon to explain Washington’s latest war policy. “The United States of America is the greatest force for freedom and security that the world has ever known. And in no small measure, that’s because we’ve built the best-trained, best-led, best-equipped military in history — and as Commander-in-Chief, I’m going to keep it that way.” Continue reading

The American Century Is Over—Good Riddance

As someone who teaches both history and international relations, I have one foot in each camp. I’m interested in what has already happened. And I’m interested in what will happen next. In my teaching and my writing, I try to locate connecting tissue that links past to present. Among the devices I’ve employed to do that is the concept of an “American Century.” Continue reading

US-Funded Textbooks Teach Afghan Children Whitewashed History

Afghan children are being taught with U.S.-funded textbooks explicitly written to exclude four decades of war in an almost self-satirizing attempt to “bring people together.”

“There is no mention of the Soviet war, the mujaheddin, the Taliban or the U.S. military presence,” reports the Washington Post. “In their efforts to promote a single national identity, Afghan leaders have deemed their own history too controversial.”

When state-funded indoctrination books whitewash entire swathes of relevant history, societal problems don’t simply go away. They’re compounded. Afghans are suffering on a daily basis from war and yet the U.S. and their Afghan “education” wardens appear to have decided to keep children ignorant of the causes of their country’s troubles.

Attempting to erase four decades of history is something extremely beneficial for the criminals, thugs, and extremists that have terrorized the country in that time. U.S. officials and the Afghan Ministry presumably want to prevent Afghans from knowing that the Soviets invaded and slaughtered perhaps over a million Afghans, or that the U.S. helped spur extremist jihadis to power, or that the Taliban forced a delusional brand of religious savagery on the people, or that the U.S. has committed extensive atrocities and war crimes throughout ten years of military occupation. Lucky for the Russians, Americans, and Taliban.

“Our recent history tears us apart. We’ve created a curriculum based on the older history that brings us together, with figures universally recognized as being great,” said Farooq Wardak, Afghanistan’s education minister. “These are the first books in decades that are depoliticized and de-ethnicized.”

Depoliticized, de-enthicized, and de-factized. The curriculum, which was “reviewed” for “inappropriate material” by people the Post calls “U.S. military cultural advisers,” is anathema to education. It does the opposite of what education is supposed to do, instead keeping Afghans ignorant and doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past, never having learned from them in the first place.

Israeli Military Prepares for Massive Gaza Invasion ‘Within Months’

The Jerusalem Post reports today that Israel’s military has ordered its Southern Command to prepare for a “large scale” invasion of the Gaza Strip, likely to begin within the next few months.

The revelation is hardly a surprise, as Israeli Military Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz has repeatedly pressed for an invasion of the Gaza Strip over the past few months, while trumpeting the late 2008 invasion as a “great success.

Officials today indicated that the next invasion would be very much on the same model as 2008, which saw massive Palestinian civilian casualties and destruction of considerable civilian infrastructure, much of which remains unrepaired as an Israeli blockade has prevented construction materials from being imported.

The exact timing of the invasion will also be tricky, as Israel will of course rely on the US to run interference in the UN when the ugliest aspects of the war begin to trickle out. The last invasion came after the 2008 US Presidential election but was virtually wrapped up before President Obama took office. It may be that Israel will try a similar strategy of starting the war after the vote in an effort to keep it from being a political issue in the US.
